Dear Sweet Reader,

If you’ve suffered through a divorce, you know the pain that comes from the realization that your world will never be the same. The future that you worked so hard to build and plan collapses before your eyes. You make the terrifying discovery that your house was built on sand, shaky ground and now the storm is all around you. It’s a tough pill to swallow. Friends, family, loved ones are not always able or willing to provide you with the support you need. You feel broken, angry and hopeless.

When I was going through my divorce, I experienced all of those sensations. I felt beyond broken. In some ways the experience was even worse than the death of a loved one because of the powerful attack on my self-confidence and self worth. Eventually in desperation I turned to prayer and the Bible. I realized I could not make my grief the full time job of my friends and family. I needed to find comfort, solace, and healing in my own way and I didn’t want my pain to embitter me to the point where I inadvertently hurt my children by not being the parent they needed. God truly became my refuge. Jesus said, “All you who are weary and burdened come to me and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28).”

I felt dead inside, but God began to breathe into me the breath of life. Despite a major disappointment in my life, I found healing and incredible joy by walking close to the Lord. The journey started with a prayer and then a daily walk. God began to open new doors, provide new friends and opportunities to help others. Gradually I began to heal and find purpose and wholeness in my life. God has provided me with a wonderful release of all the past burdens of a broken and damaged relationship. Jesus is the master potter and he takes broken pieces and shapes even the most jagged edges into lovelier more nuanced creations.

If you are that woman feeling broken, if you doubt your value and self worth, if you think you are too devastated for healing, my novels are written with you in mind. I’ve been there and I want to point you in the direction of the Master Healer. I am always interested in hearing your stories and receiving the opportunity to pray for you. If you want to share, I would be happy to pray for you. We should always pray for each other. God answers prayer and he always works toward your good.

Be Blessed,

Debby Handman
